Eat Healthy Kauai
2018-11-02

Whenever I travel to a new place I always check my Happy Cow app to find local vegan restaurants. One of the first restaurants that popped up was Eat Healthy Kauai and when I touched down, it ended up being my first (and last) stop in Kauai.

Before deciding on a restaurant I like to read the reviews and check out food photos that other Happy Cow users have left. One review said that the chickens were bothering him and I was so confused on why there were chickens at a vegan restaurant.

We arrived at Eat Healthy Kauai and sat outside underneath an umbrella and I instantly understood what the reviewer meant. There are literally wild chickens and roosters all over the island of Kauai. Back in 1992, Hurricane Iniki destroyed chicken coops releasing domesticated hens as well as roosters bred for cockfighting. Which means these beautiful feathered animals now inhabit and freely roam on the island. On every table there are spray bottles filled with water to shoo away the chickens and roosters if they come a little too close for your comfort.

Now let’s talk about the food. The menu has a large variety of different items, from smoothies, acai bowls, and sandwiches to buddha bowls and burgers. It was definitely a tough decision to decide on one thing for lunch. When I finally made my mind up I ordered the Tempeh "BLT" Sandwich and Ben ordered a BYO (Build your own) tofu scramble burrito.

And for dessert we had to try their vegan and gluten free banana bread with vegan butter.

Since we were staying in Princeville we didn’t get to come back and eat at Eat Healthy during our stay. So we came back on our way back to the airport. This time it was closer to breakfast so I had to try their banana pancakes! AND they were having a special on this beyond meat burger with kimchi, so I had to try it and OMG you guys this burger was so amazing that I am going to try and recreate it but I’m sure it won’t be exactly the same.

Eat Healthy Kauai is a must stop and eat restaurant in Kauai. The restaurant is located in Kapaa, about a 10 minute car ride from the airport. So you have no excuse to not stop first thing when you land. Get your wild chicken experience here along with excellent vegan eats!
