The island of Kauai is a small intimate community of 67,000 people, known for being one of the wettest places on earth and it’s cascading waterfalls. While out exploring the little towns of Kauai, we stumbled upon Hanalei. Hanalei is a small beach town with only mom and pop shops, no resorts and with a cute food truck scene.




One of the mom and pop restaurants we stumbled upon was Ama. Ama in mandarin chinese is "Grandma", in the Polynesian language it means "Outrigger" part of a canoe that provides stability. Ama has the best view of the emerald green mountains with lots of indoor and outdoor seating around a fire pit.

Mushroom Bao Buns

Ben and I were exploring the little beach town of Hanalei and saw a sign that said "Ramen Noodles" and immediately we went searching for these noods. Ama is only open for dinner and was closed when we went to check it out but luckily we were able to talk with the Chef about their vegan options. The Chef informed us of many options and let us know that their noodles were all vegan and made with alkaline water and no dairy.

Burmese Salad

We came back a couple nights later and enjoyed so many delicious items on Ama’s menu. For starters, we shared the bao buns with mushrooms, Burmese Salad, and Nuoc Cham Brussel Sprouts. My favorite was definitely the buns because you know me I love me some buns hun!

Midori Mazemen

For the mains we shared Midori Mazemen and the Vegetarian Ramen (No egg). Since I’m asian I just love noodles, I can eat noods all day everyday. Especially since we’ve been traveling, having a bowl of noodles in a hot soup is so comforting.

Nuoc Cham Brussel Sprouts

Kauai is a very laid back island so a lot of the restaurants are very casual. Ama is more upscale compared to the other restaurants in Hanalei. The perfect place to get dressed up for a date night in Kauai.
