Vegan in Napa Valley: Domaine Carneros
2019-07-10

The Napa Valley is a grape place known for it’s Cabernet Sauvignon. I do love a good cab but my drink of choice will always be champagne. Sparkling wine doesn’t get much attention in Napa and there are not a lot of sparkling wineries. Domaine Carneros is one of the top must-visit spots for sparkling wines in the Napa Valley.

On your way to Napa, you’ll find the chateau, inspired by the classic 18th century Château de la Marquetterie in Champagne, France, perched up on top of a knoll. Domaine Carneros is the perfect first stop on your tasting tour since it is located just outside of the city of Napa.

Reservations are required for a visit to the winery and everyone in your party must be 21 years of age or older. At the beginning of the year, you were able to pop in with no reservations, grab a table, and enjoy a bottle or two on the patio. Since Napa County has enforced permit laws to regulate the capacity of guests at the winery per day, Domaine Carneros no longer feels like Disneyland. Now, it’s less crowded, peaceful, and you are guaranteed a table. Domaine Carneros is famous for their patio seating with a gorgeous view of the valley and of course their bubbly. They also offer indoor seating for those colder days when the weather isn’t perfect.

Let’s talk vegan wine and cheese pairings. If you don’t know what vegan wine is, I have a blog post that explains why some wines are not vegan: What is Vegan Wine?.

Domaine Carneros offers four different flight tastings, but we’re here to talk about the bubbly. The Sparkling Wine flight gives you two-ounce pours of Ultra Brut, Estate Brut Cuvée, Brut Rosé, and Verméil Demi-Sec. I loved them all because they each have a perfect occasion for that specific bubbly.

Domaine Carneros wines are vegan, and they also offer a vegan cheese pairing! The vegan cheese plate came with two kinds of cheese: Miyoko’s Double Cream Sundried Tomato Garlic and Mt. Vesuvius Black Ash. Alongside the cheese was a sweet plum jam, dried apricots, and crackers. The pairing was perfect.

I had a great time at Domaine Carneros. I highly recommend their sparkling wines and especially their fantastic vegan cheese pairing. The views are stunning, the bubbles are tasty, and everything is vegan! What more could you want?

I don’t see anything about the vegan cheese pairing on their website. Did you book just a tasting and were able to order the vegan cheese plate once you were there ?

Love the idea of vegan wine tastings! I'd love to try the Brut Rosé and Verméil Demi-Sec, looks exquisite!
