I can’t believe 2018 is already coming to an end. 2018 was an amazing year! Safari Glamping at Coachella, visiting Vancouver, VegFest in Scottsdale and Portland, Celebrated my birthday in Tulum, two bachelorette parties in one month, a wedding in Hawaii, and cheered Ben on his first marathon! Such wonderful memories but I’m ready to make more!
I did pretty well on my goals for 2018:
Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018. Every year I want to grow and become a better version of myself. I believe in always working towards your goals and never stop continually learning and growing. There is always room for improvement. I have listed out my goals that I would love to work on not just in 2019 but for the next few years or more. Keep working on improving yourself until it doesn’t fulfill you.
Education
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"- Nelson Mandala
I just finished a
Plant Based Nutrition course through Cornell University and I LOVED it! I love learning about nutrition because I want to be able to educate the importance of a plant based diet to everyone especially my friends and family. So my goal is to keep learning and expanding my knowledge on subjects that spark my interest. I’ve also been doing online courses on
Udemy to expand my blogging and marketing knowledge. I also plan on practicing my mandarin so that it is strong when I travel to Asia again.
Create Engaging High Quality Content
"The only way to do great work is to love what you do" - Steve Jobs
One thing that I’ve enjoyed doing is creating content for my blog. But this year I want to step it up and create better high quality content. I want my content to have meaning and a purpose. I am proud that my writing has improved but I want to keep improving and getting better. In order for me to improve and create high quality content, I need to keep getting inspired. I need to do things that will help my mind grow and be more creative.
Floss
"Keep smiling because life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about" - Marilyn Monroe
Confession: I hate flossing. I probably flossed a total of 10 times last year and two of those times was when I got my teeth cleaned.
True Story: One time during one of my teeth cleanings (years ago) I asked the dental hygienist if I should floss in the morning or at night. She responded with: "If you were only going to floss once a day, I would floss at night" I was like wait, what? I’m supposed to floss twice a day?
So I’ve decided to make flossing a 2019 goal for me. I want to make it a habit that it’s weird if I don’t floss. Kind of like if I don’t eat anything green everyday it’s weird. And the best way to make flossing fun is when it’s cute!
Coco Floss is a floss that does it all! The floss erases stinky plaque, scrubs all the yellow gunk off your teeth, and reduces gum inflammation. Plus it’s a vegan and cruelty free product! Anything that goes in my mouth or on my body has to be animal and cruelty free.
Minimize
"There is beauty in simplicity"
Ever since I moved out of my apartment in Yountville I’ve been minimizing my life. I learned how to minimize from
Marie Kondo’s "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up". She teaches you to hold an item and if the item doesn’t spark any joy or happiness then let it go. I’ve learned to live with less and it feels really good! I’ve been working on being more mindful of the things I buy because I don’t want to be consumed with stuff. My new rule is if I want something new I need to give up something old. Same goes for digital things, I’ve been cleaning up apps on my phone and organizing/deleting photos, and unfollowing people on my instagram that don’t bring me any joy or inspiration.
Meditation
"Everything you need, your courage, strength, compassion and love; everything you need is already within you"
I used to meditate everyday for a good 6 months. And then one day I stopped and I’ve stopped for a year and I have no idea why. But I want to get back on the meditation train because it really helps me clear my mind, body, and soul. Just 10 minutes of meditation a day also helps me sleep better at night and if I’m stressed it helps alleviate it.
Practice Yoga
"Fall in love with taking care of yourself. Mind. Body. Spirit"
I love HIIT workout but one thing I hate doing is stretching. I took a free week of yoga classes at CorePower Yoga last month and I loved that it was an hour of amazing stretches in a heated room so it made me sweat, A LOT! The combination of relaxing stretches and sweating is amazing. I would love to get in the rhythm of doing 30 minutes to an hour of yoga every morning at home before getting a start on my day.
Couple Goals
"Grow together, stay together"
Being in a relationship isn’t just about eating food together, sleeping next to each other, netflix and chilling. I mean those are definitely a bonus but in order to not get stale or stuck in a relationship funk try creating goals together! Ben and I decided in 2019 we want to take dance lessons, travel to cabo often, and drink more wine! Couples who make goals together stay together!
Vitamins
"It’s never too early or too late to work towards being the healthiest you"
I try to eat all really healthy to get all my nutrients and vitamins but sometimes there are days when you can’t get everything. So I’ve decided to start taking
Ritual Vitamins to ensure that I get all the vital nutrients women should get. I’m keeping my bottle of Ritual Vitamins next to my toothbrush so that I know to take it every morning after I brush my teeth.
Morning Pages
"Writing is like breathing, it's possible to learn to do it well, but the point is to do it no matter what." - Julia Cameron
For the past month I’ve been waking up before sunrise without an alarm and making myself a cup of warm water with lemon and apple cider vinegar and writing in my
Five Minute Journal followed by my morning pages. I’ve developed this routine after reading Julia Cameron's
"The Artist's Way". I love writing to clear my mind. Morning pages is a great way for you to mind dump on paper. I just write whatever is on my mind to make room for other creative things. I try to write three pages but some days I only write one page. There are no rules to your morning pages, just write until your mind is cleared.
Meet new people and focus on my current relationships
"You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with." – Jim Rohn.
Pay attention to the people around you. Make sure that you’re spending time with people who are in line with what you want for your own life. Obviously you can’t change who your family is and a new lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to give up lifelong friends. However, we can make an effort to create new relationships that feed our new interests and help support healthy lifelong practices.
